Most likely if you are a Western man contemplating a move to the Philippines you have two major concerns:

Now available in three formats:

Let’s consider these two concerns:

Let’s be honest, if you were rich, you probably would not be considering retirement in the Philippines. With enough money you can lead a pretty great life in the USA or other western country. But many of us are not rich. Perhaps you lost a lot of money in the financial crises. Perhaps you have enough money to survive but not enough to really lead the good life. Well if you have enough money to survive in the USA, you have more than enough money to live the good life in the Philippines. If I told you that I could offer you an investment where you would triple your money instantly, would you believe me? Not likely. But that is effectively what is happening when you decide to retire in the Philippines. Your money will triple in terms of the life style you can afford.

Now let’s consider the second concern. In your Western country you probably could not easily attract a much younger woman unless you are extremely rich. Above and beyond that there is the problem of political correctness. Western society looks down at much older men with much younger woman. Some might even consider you a pervert. However, the truth is, this is completely natural. No matter how old a man gets, the women he is attracted to stay the same age. This is simple Darwinism. In the Philippines the attitude is completely different. It is considered natural for older men to be with younger women. Nobody will give it a second thought, and as a Westerner with money it will be easy for you to attract young women.

Although it may not have changed anything, I wish I had this guide before I started dating in the Philippines and finding and marrying my wife. It would have certainly flattened my learning curve. As it turns out I have a wonderful wife and daughter now so I’m more interested in using the section on retiring in the Philippines. This is really two books in one from a man’s perspective. I read the first part of the book anyway and the author’s observations about Filipinas are spot on and very analytical (my wife read it too and is in agreement). It helped me trust him on the advice about moving to the Philippines and he changed my views on some aspects of my plans to move there. The book far exceeded my expectations. If you’re considering either dating or marrying a Filipina or moving to the Philippines, this book is indispensable, or at least worth many times its price and the time to read it.

But it’s not all clear sailing! There are problems and pitfalls. You need somebody to help you in the process – and I am that person!

  • Because I am an expat that has lived in the philippines for 9 years. I have travelelled to dozens of places in the Philippines and talked to hundreds of Expats.
  • Because I am a published author with a top selling book on in the category TRAVEL-ASIA-PHILIPPINES, with a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.
  • Because I will tell you the things you need and want to know.
  • Because I will not shy away from any topics.
  • Because I will give you insights into Philippine life, culture and women that you will not find on other sites.
  • Because I am not a Cheer leader. I will tell it like it is, the good, the bad and the ugly without agenda. It is not my goal to convince you to come to the Philippines. It is my goal to give you the information you need to make informed decisions, to know what to expect, and what to do when you get here.

This last item seems like a simple thing. Not a cheer leader? – So what?

But the fact is, this is one of the areas that distinguishes me from other sites and authors. Most of them are cheer leaders. There is a good reason for this. It’s a well known marketing technique for selling books or anything else for that matter. Convince the reader that the (place, activity, sport, religion etc) is the greatest thing ever. Convince them that first so they are so excited, and then tell them you can help them achieve this utopia with your book. Imagine for example you said, “The Philippines sucks, you will hate it here – buy my book to find out why”! Would anybody buy that book? I think not! So it’s a proven technique, but guess what, I don’t want to use it! Why? Because I want to be different. I want to be the one you can trust for accurate unbiased, non agenda’d information. I am the straight shooter.Does this mean I don’t think you should come to Philippines to start a new life? NOPE! Not at all! There are many wonderful reasons for living or retiring in the Philippines. I will give you some down below. But it is not all one sided. There are trade offs. Not everything is utopia. Here, let me give you some examples. Below you will find four quotes from other internet sites.

  • The amazing story of a man who left the rat race and discovered tropical paradise, happiness, and the women of his dreams!
  • Live like a king for under a thousand dollars a month!
  • Filipina women are family minded loyal women who still believe in teamwork!
  • If you have been searching for someone special, the Philippines is full of them! If she really is one in a million, then there are 23 more just like her you haven’t met yet!!!!

Wow, sounds fantastic!!! Makes you want to jump on a plane right now and leave your western world behind! But now let me analyze each of these statements in the way I like to. With no agenda. With Accuracy in mind.

The Amazing Story Of [a] Man Who Left The rat race And Discovered Tropical Paradise, Happiness, And The Women Of His Dreams! Ok, some of this is true. You can leave the rate race and you can find happiness. But is the Philippines really a tropical paradise? Come on, let’s be honest. The Philippines is a third world country with a lot of poverty and things that will drive you crazy. Some parts of the Philippines are beautiful, some are very ugly. It’s not all paradise- and are you likely to find the woman of your dreams? Well looks wise yes! But is she likely to be your soul mate? Your very best friend that you can talk about anything in the world to? This is my idea of the woman of your dreams, and finding her in the Philippines is unlikely, for many reasons I will tell you about in my book.

Live like a king for under a thousand dollars a month! Ok, again, its partly true. You can lead a pretty decent life for about 1000 dollars a month. But live like a king? This is hyperbole to get you excited. Remember a general rule of thumb. Your money is worth about 3 times as much in the Philippines. That’s a great thing – who doesn’t want to triple their money? But can a person live like a king in the USA for $3000 a month?

Filipina women are family minded loyal women who still believe in teamwork! Filipina women are family minded, but the truth is, their own family will often come first. In many cases there is constant stress over her wanting you to help her family. Her feeling it is your obligation to help her family

If you have been searching for someone special, the Philippines is full of them! If she really is one in a million, then there are 23 more just like her you haven’t met yet!!!! You can find a young beautiful Filipina woman, no problem. But youth and beauty alone does not make her one in a million. Filipina women have their positives and negatives just like women in any culture. You are no more likely to find your one in a million here than anywhere else. My book will tell you what to expect, and it will not be telling you to expect perfection!

So this is what you will get when you order my book. Straight shooting. Not hyperbole and exaggeration.

Now, again, that being said, does this mean you should not come to the Philippines to live or retire? And again: Hell NO! Here are some great reasons to live or retire in the Philippines

Triple your money! Wouldn’t you love an investment where you instantly triple your money? If you come to the Philippines to retire you basically triple your money in terms of your buying power and living standards.

Find a young beautiful sexy Filipina woman. This part is 100% true. No matter your age, you can easily find a gorgeous young Filipina woman to be your girl friend or wife. She may not be perfect, but she will be perfect looking!

FEEL FREE and young at heart. “O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?” Brave maybe, Free no. The USA likes to promote itself as so free. It’s not. Hell you can’t even pee outside without getting arrested. There are so many less rules in the Philippines. It’s really live and let live so much more than a Western country. Nobody will call you a pervert for having a 20 year old girl friend. Hang around with younger people. The Philippines is so much less age conscious. Its normal for older people to hang out with younger people.

So in fact there are many good reasons to live or retire in the Philippines! I made the transition and I am so glad I did! I would never want to go back to my old life. But at the same time, I am going to tell you things accurately, without embellishing, without promoting. Do you want an accurate picture or do you want a cheer leader?

Now as I tell these things about my book I want to make it clear, you don’t have to only take my word for it. I will give you proof. This is because my book is not only an E-BOOK but it is also a paperback book selling on since March 2009. It has been one of the top selling books in the category TRAVEL-ASIA-PHILIPPINES and at the risk of tooting my own horn I’m pretty proud of this, because all the other top selling books in this category have big publishing houses behind them, where as I am a self publisher. Since I am a self publisher Amazon will not discount the book from the list price (as they do for most of their books). Despite all this it has been one of the best sellers in the category.

Amazon allows ratings and reviews of books on their web site. I have no control over these ratings or reviews. Well as of this writing there are 17 reviews about my book and I have a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars! You can read some of these reviews right here as I have included them in the right side bar, or:

In addition to being the straight shooter you can trust, I will analyze things in ways that other authors don’t For example, do you think there is just one kind of Filipina woman? That exotic perfect family oriented beauty that most of the sites tell you about?

NO! There are different kinds of women with different agenda’s! Some are single mothers desperate to provide a good life to their baby.

Some are students who desire an education.

Some crave to escape poverty.

Some want to help their family

In my book I actually describe ten different categories of woman that are searching for Westerners. They all have different psychologies, different positive and negatives. Isn’t this the kind of insight you really need?

Are you convinced yet? If you are, click on the button below to go to the BUY page. If not, it’s ok, I will tell you more!

Ok, if you are not totally convinced, I can’t blame you. This is because anybody can toot there own horn and say how great their book is. That doesn’t mean its true. Right?

Well I am already offering you proof by inviting you to go to my Amazon page and read the reviews and ratings there.

But I will do more!

So that you can actually read some of my material, see my style and form an opinion about the content of my book, I will include ten articles about the Philippines (based on content in my book) for you to read right here on my site. Click HERE or on the menu item TEN FROM BOOK (at the top of the page) to read these articles.

Not only that but I will also offer you a risk free guarantee!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Man’s Guide to Life and Love in the Philippines, March 4, 2010
By Charles F. Wilkes (San Jose, Calif., USA) –
Amazon Verified PurchaseI have been going to the Philippines for many years, as I own a house there now, and plan to retire there. While I’m not into getting a new love — my wife is a filipina, there is much informatin here about living in the Phiilippines. I know the Philippines very well, and I found much that I know to be true. And much that I still didn’t know, but needed to. I can certainly recommend this book.
5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I have ever read, should have won awards, must buy book!, March 29, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)This Book is mainly for people who are over 40 years of age. It has alot of great information about just about every aspect of life in the Phillippines. Information included is also such as where somethings people can tend to get confused if they have never been in the Phillippines before. It makes it pretty simple to explain the differences. One of the best books I have ever read. I am under 26. So i am not saying if you are under 40 that this book won’t be helpful or useful. It really can be useful and very intresting in my opinion. I am surprised that this book has not won any awards. I think is should have won a few already. When the exchange rate was mentioned, it is about the same as it is now when i am typeing this. I think if you are as young as me and thinking of traveling or you are who the book is actually meant for. Than this is a must buy for you. -Specter Lance
5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read, March 10, 2010
By Shawn A. Moffit (Korea) –
Amazon Verified PurchaseI’ve traveled to many of the places that the author writes about, so it was easy to relate to the areas. This is an excellent book that goes into just enough detail. I think it is a must read for folks considering becoming an expat in the PI.
5.0 out of 5 stars “A Man’s Guide to….” is the indespensible guide, March 8, 2010
By Tensleep (Negros Island, Phililppines) –
Amazon Verified Purchase(I am recently retired and widowed and started planning to visit the Philippines in Fall, 2009. Like the first reviewer in this section I bought four books on the Philippines: a good guide book (Lonely Planet); Culture Shock, by A. Roces; A Long Way to Go for a Date; and Elterman’s singularly unique guide book. I agree with Howp’s views on the first three. But I am even more bullish on Elterman’s book than Howp was…and I have now been in the Philippines for 6 weeks of a 12 week stay. I have three goals in being here. I want a warm place to winter every year, Jan to May; a good place for diving, snorkeling and sailing; and, hopefully to find a long term partner or wife. Any good guide book will get you around in the Philippines because the people are very friendly and helpful and most speak English. But Eltermans’s book is indispensible. It contains practical information on almost every important aspect for someone with interests similar to mine. I am pretty tech savy but I found the section on cell phones and texting saved me time and frustration. And his explanation of the importance of texting and how to use it is helpful for anyone of any age wanting to meet and date Filipinas. Other sections on housing, transportation, getting an extended visa are also useful, going beyond a standard guidebook.

But the book’s really strong suit is providing information on how to meet and date Filipina women. Elterman creates a typology of types of Filipina women who may be willing to date foreigners that has helped me manage a confusing situation. And he managed to do so while describing Filipino people in a positive and respectful manner which they certainly deserve. Any typology is just that, an abstraction and all real people are more complex than any description. But the guide provides rich and accurate description (in my limited experience) and subtle suggestions that are helpful to any foreigner who is seeking to date a Filipina or find a wife or companion regardless of age or how long they have been here. And Elterman does so in a fun and readable manner. I find myself consulting this unique book on a weekly basis.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great and informative read, August 31, 2009
By Gary A. Perdue “Goldnfrm” (North/Central WV USA) –

Hello Larry,

I just finished reading your book “A man’s guide to life and love in the Philippines”. I found the book to be very helpful. It has lots of information I think I will need when visiting and ultimately moving there to live. The book has loads of insight into the culture of the country that I find helpful. I also like the humor you inserted to keep the book upbeat and entertaining. I also appreciated the way you had the book chapters broken down into categories.

Larry, to be honest, I have read several books recently concerning the Philippines. I hope to visit there in October. If I like what I find during my 3 week visit, I hope to be moving there in January for an extended stay, possibly forever. Most that I’ve read will be just placed on a shelf for possible future reference. Your book, on the other hand, will be re-read before my trip and most likely taken along for reference as needed.

This book was a great help to me. You did wonderful and informative work, while keeping it entertaining, keep up the good work.

many thanks,
